Event Details

Join The Woke & Winning Youth Action Summer Workshop Series for our next youth art and activism workshop! Each workshop aims to connect youth between the ages of 16-to-25 years old to various local and national organizations that use their platforms to promote gun reform. The second half of each workshop offers emerging artists a master art class with School of the Art Institute of Chicago graduate and international portrait artist, Liz Gomez, and a concluding Art-Making for Awareness Activity that is meant to connect participants to the broader community.

This session we are excited to welcome, Lauren Tucker, Director of Marketing and Community Relations for Indivisible Chicago. Lauren will share her knowledge of the political environment for gun reform in Chicago and Illinois, and will have participants curate critical data points about gun violence and use these data points to develop powerful data visualizations to inspire strategies for legislative social justice.

Art-Making for Awareness: Art as Strategy

During this week’s art workshop, participants will produce two collaborative art pieces. One piece will be given to a legislator who has long supported gun reform and the other will be given to a legislator with a mixed record. It is our intention to show how art can be utilized to ignite positive change and communicate universal themes of resistance.
